The WLFAA was originally organized as the group that owned and operated the Pataskala Volunteer Fire Department.  This continued until the formation of the West Licking Joint Fire District, which continues to protect and serve the community to this day.  The WLFFA now operates to support the WLJFD in many different ways.  Members of the WLFFA include firefighters, retired firefighters, and community members interested in supporting the District.

The WLFFA raises funds through the annual Pataskala Street Fair, an event it has organized and sponsored for the past 60 years.  The funds raised at the Street Fair are used to support the District by purchasing specialized equipment that the District may not have funds for.  For example, the Association built the second Fire Safety House in central Ohio, which was recently replaced by a state of the art fire/severe weather mobile safety house.  The safety house is taken to local elementary schools to teach the kids how to react during such events.

The latest endeavor of the WLFFA is the creation of a Support Services Unit for the District.  This unit is something that will be used at scene the District is at for a long period of time, i.e. large fires and hazmat scenes, to serve as a place for firefighters to replenish fluids and to recover for short periods of time.
